Notice of Service Arrangements of UOB Hong Kong for Severe Weather Trading

In alignment with the Hong Kong Exchange and Clearing Limited’s new arrangements to ensure the continued operation of Hong Kong securities and derivatives markets under severe weather* (“SW”) conditions, known as Severe Weather Trading (“SWT”), effective from 23 September 2024, we would like to inform you about UOB Hong Kong’s (the “Bank”) corresponding service arrangements.

During SW conditions, the Bank will be closed, and banking services will remain accessible through internet banking. Specific arrangements and adjustments will apply to the following services, subject to relevant terms and conditions:

  1. Our Internet banking and customer service hotline at (852) 2910 8888 will remain accessible during SWT.
  2. No paper cheques will be collected on SWT day; however, paper cheques collected before cut-off time on the business day before a SWT day will continue to be cleared and settled. E-cheque services and remittance services via internet banking will be available on SWT day. Further details are provided below.

For our Wholesale Banking clients involved in securities brokerage and our Private Banking clients, please contact your Relationship Manager to arrange specific services and support during SWT.

Cheque Clearing Paper Cheque No cheque collection, clearing and settlement services will be available during full-day SW when the Bank is not open. Funds of cheques deposited before the cut-off time of the previous business day will usually be available on the SWT Day, unless it falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or public holiday.

No cheque collection and same day clearing services will be available during full-day SW when the Bank is not open.

If it is not full-day SW and bank services resume, funds of cheques deposited before the cut-off time on the SWT Day will usually be available on the next business day; relevant funds of cheques deposited before the cut-off time on the previous business day will usually be available on the SWT day (excluding Saturdays, Sundays, or public holidays).

Cheque return arrangement will remain unchanged. Under special circumstances, such as an incorrect signature or insufficient account balance, the cheque will be returned. The rejected cheque will be returned to the drawer's bank on next business day.
E-Cheque No receipt of e-cheque and no clearing and settlement services will be available during full-day SW when the Bank is not open. Services will operate as usual. E-cheques presented before the SWT Day’s cut-off time (excluding Saturdays, Sundays, or public holidays) will be processed on the same day and settled on the next business day. Relevant funds of e-cheques presented before the cut-off time of the previous business day will usually be available on the SWT Day (excluding Saturdays, Sundays, or public holidays).
Internet Banking** Remittance (RTGS and Telegraphic Transfer) Payments submitted after the cut-off time on the previous business day or on a SW Day (excluding Saturdays, Sundays, or public holidays) will be postponed for processing until the next business day. Payments submitted after the cut-off time on the previous business day or on a SWT Day (excluding Saturdays, Sundays, or public holidays) will usually be processed on the SWT Day. The processing time required depends on the complexity of the instruction. Customers are encouraged to make advance arrangements for their payment activities before SWT Day, if necessary.
Faster Payment System (“FPS”) Service is available as usual. Service is available as usual.

*Severe weather refers to the scenario where a typhoon signal No. 8 or above or a black rainstorm warning is issued by the Hong Kong Observatory, or an “extreme conditions” announcement is made by the HKSAR Government.
**Internet banking will be accessible as usual. As a reminder, registration of third-party payees will continue to be available via internet banking, but adjustment of funds transfer limits is currently not supported via internet banking. Customers are encouraged to make advance arrangements for their payment activities, if necessary.

This is an important security message for safeguarding the validity of customers’ SMS originating from UOB Hong Kong.

Starting from 14 June 2024, all one-way SMS messages originating from UOB Hong Kong to local mobile users will be prefixed with #UOB. SMS messages purported to be from UOB Hong Kong without the prefix should be treated with care and caution.

This is an industry wide initiative, together with the Office of the Communications Authority, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, the Hong Kong Police Force, the Hong Kong Association of Banks and the telecommunications industry, banks in Hong Kong will adopt the “SMS Sender Registration Scheme” to allow recipients to identify if SMSs are from his/her banks.

Please note that the “SMS Sender Registration Scheme” is not applicable to :

  1. SMS messages of which receiving parties are expected to reply to the senders via phone numbers (2-way SMS); or
  2. Local subscribers of Single-Card-Multiple-Numbers/One-Card-Two-Numbers mobile service provided by non-Hong Kong operators.

UOB Hong Kong would like to alert its customers and the public to a suspicious website (www.dahuagvip.com). UOB Hong Kong clarifies that this website has no affiliation to the Bank and the Bank’s official website is https://www.uobgroup.com/hk/index.page.

UOB Hong Kong has already reported this matter to the Hong Kong Police and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority.

Customers who may have disclosed their personal or account information or conducted transactions through the suspicious website should inform the Police immediately and contact their UOB relationship manager for assistance.

We would like to remind our customers to stay vigilant and not to provide their personal or account information through unofficial or unverified websites.

Statement on unauthorised mobile app download website

UOB Hong Kong would like to alert our customers and members of the public to an unauthorised mobile app download website (primeapk.co) hosting UOB Infinity mobile app. UOB Hong Kong clarifies that it has no connection with the website involved.

The Bank has reported the unauthorised website to the Hong Kong Police Force and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority. We would like to remind our customers to stay vigilant and not to download UOB’s mobile apps from unofficial platforms. The Bank’s mobile apps are available for download for free only via the official App Store or Google Play.

Notice on Inactive / Dormant Accounts

An inactive account is an account that has not been used for transactions for 10 consecutive months. To turn an inactive account to active status, the account holder has to carry out a credit or debit transaction in the account.

An account will become dormant if there is no transaction for 12 consecutive months. Dormant corporate account users are not allowed to perform transactions through UOB Business Internet Banking Plus (BIBPlus). To reactivate a dormant account, the account holder has to perform a debit transaction.

To ensure your account remains active, you are advised to maintain a credit or debit transaction in your account regularly for at least once every 12 months.

Statement on fake investment scheme using UOB’s name

UOB Hong Kong would like to alert our customers and the general public of a fraudulent email being circulated regarding a fake investment scheme using UOB’s name.

The fake email address is info@uobbanks.org.

We have reported the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority. Customers who may have disclosed their personal or account information or may have conducted transactions through the suspicious email should report to the Police and contact their UOB relationship manager for assistance.

We remind our clients to stay vigilant against fraudulent emails. UOB Hong Kong will never ask for personal or account information through emails.

Alert on Telephone Deception Relating to Cash Payout Scheme of the Hong Kong SAR Government

There is a recent rise of telephone deceptions relating to Cash Payout Scheme of the Hong Kong SAR Government (“CPS”). In order to protect customers’ asset and personal data, the Bank reminds customers that:

  1. It is anticipated that CPS will be increasingly used as a bait by fraudsters in devising various scams including telephone deception.

  2. Customers should exercise extra caution whenever receiving calls from unsolicited callers or pre-recorded voice message (“PRVM”) asking for customer’s personal and/or banking information for purposes relating to CPS. This is particularly so where the caller’s number starts with a "+" sign, which indicates the call has been originated from the overseas.

  3. In any genuine call from the Bank to our customers, the call never starts with a PRVM, or requests the customer to press a button on the phone number pad via PRVM. If customers have received any call starting with PRVM, they should hang up at once.

  4. Customers should never disclose personal data and/or bank account details in a call from unsolicited callers or PRVM.

Notice of unauthorised telesales calls

United Overseas Bank, Hong Kong Branch has not authorised or appointed any intermediaries to conduct telesales marketing activities for promotion of commercial lending. If a caller claims to be from UOB inviting applicants for commercial lending, it might be a suspected unauthorised telesales call.

Fraudulent website notification
As part of our constant monitoring of potential cybersecurity risks and threats, United Overseas Bank Limited ("UOB" or the "Bank") is aware that there have been phishing attempts targeting our clients via a fraudulent website: www.the-uob.com/hk or www.the-uob.com/online/login.php.


The official website of UOB in Hong Kong is www.uobgroup.com/hk.

We would like to remind our clients and the public that we do not send unsolicited SMSes or emails asking them to click on a link to enter their personal or account details into a website.

We have since reported the fraudulent website to the Hong Kong Police and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, and have worked with the relevant authorities to take down the fraudulent website. 

If any client is concerned that they may have disclosed their personal or account information or may have conducted transactions through the fraudulent website, they should inform the Police and contact their UOB relationship manager for assistance. Clients should not provide their personal or account information to such websites.

If a client or member of the public receives unsolicited or suspicious emails or SMSes which appear to be from UOB, or if they are uncertain about the authenticity of the website, they should contact the Bank at (852) 2910 8888 for verification.

 

Third party emails
Please be informed that all emails from the accounts xxx@uobgroup365.com and xxx@uobgrouphk.com are not issued by nor associated with the UOB Group. Recipients of such emails are advised to verify the contents and source of such emails carefully. If you have provided your personal information to the email/website or has conducted any financial transactions through these channels should immediately contact your nearest local police station or the Commercial Crime Bureau of the Hong Kong Police Force at 2860 5012.

 

Mis-transfer of funds
Please be careful and avoid errors when you make any fund transfers.  If you have received fund which a transferor sent by mistake, please promptly report to the Bank at (852) 2910 8888 to arrange the return of fund to the transferor at the earliest convenience.  Please be alerted that you may be criminally liable if you do not return the fund.
