Clients put their cooking skills to the test to raise close to $250,000 as part of UOB Group Commercial Banking's annual Lunar New Year charity drive
More than 40 UOB clients participated in the UOB Group Commercial Banking Lunar New Year cook-off to raise funds for charity
United Overseas Bank’s (UOB) Group Commercial Banking clients today demonstrated that they are equally at ease in the kitchen as they are in the boardroom. More than 40 UOB clients swapped their corporate attire for chef hats and aprons to participate in a Lunar New Year cook-off to raise funds for charity.
The clients spent the morning at At-Sunrice GlobalChef Academy dishing up their personal specialties based on the theme ‘Family’. Fired up for the fundraiser, the ‘chefs’ leapt into the challenge with gusto.
Three winning dishes were selected by a judging panel including UOB Deputy Chairman and CEO Mr Wee Ee Cheong, UOB Head of Group Commercial Banking Mr Eric Tham and celebrity chef Mr Eric Teo.
These dishes will be featured at a special Lunar New Year reunion dinner, specially organised by UOB Group Commercial Banking for more than 100 beneficiaries from underprivileged families under the care of Central Community Development Council (CDC), on 25 January 2019.
UOB client, Ms Jeslin Teo, CEO, TTS Eurocars Pte Ltd, who prepared one of the winning dishes, said, “I relished the challenge of creating a dish for UOB’s Lunar New Year reunion dinner as a way of giving back to our community. Lunar New Year is a time for families and friends to come together and this made the event more meaningful as it enabled us to gather for a good cause with a longstanding partner such as UOB.”
Besides putting their cooking skills to work, the UOB clients also donated close to $250,000 as part of Bank’s annual Lunar New Year charity fundraising drive. The funds raised this year will go toward the Central CDC, The Red Pencil Singapore, The Business Times Budding Artists Fund and The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund.
