This is an important security message for safeguarding the validity of customers’ SMS originating from UOB Hong Kong.

Starting from 14 June 2024, all one-way SMS messages originating from UOB Hong Kong to local mobile users will be prefixed with #UOB. SMS messages purported to be from UOB Hong Kong without the prefix should be treated with care and caution.

This is an industry wide initiative, together with the Office of the Communications Authority, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, the Hong Kong Police Force, the Hong Kong Association of Banks and the telecommunications industry, banks in Hong Kong will adopt the “SMS Sender Registration Scheme” to allow recipients to identify if SMSs are from his/her banks.

Please note that the “SMS Sender Registration Scheme” is not applicable to :

1. SMS messages of which receiving parties are expected to reply to the senders via phone numbers (2-way SMS); or
2. Local subscribers of Single-Card-Multiple-Numbers/One-Card-Two-Numbers mobile service provided by non-Hong Kong operators.
